How can I get a quote and buy a van policy?
You can get a van insurance quote online at any time. You will need to enter your details and choose the cover you require and then, you can then buy your policy. After you have purchased, we will send you your policy documents. They will also be available to view and download in the customer portal.
How do I make changes to my policy including change my car, add/remove a named driver, or change my address?
You can access and make changes to your policy at any time by logging in to the customer portal. If you cannot see the option you need, you can also visit us on our webchat.
How do I update my contact details?
You can update your phone number or email address on our website by completing this form. If you want to update your phone number only, this can also be done on our customer portal.
How do I cancel my van policy and will I get a refund?
To request a cancellation, please fill out this form or you can cancel your policy using the customer portal. We will provide you with a quote to confirm any fees, whether a refund is due, or if there is a balance still to pay.
What is included in my level of cover?
- Third Party Only (TPO) – Provides cover to a third party for unlimited injury and third party property damage up to £20,000,000.
- Third Party Fire & Theft (TPFT) – Provides cover for your own vehicle against fire or theft, cover to a third party for unlimited injury, and third party property damage up to £20,000,000.
- Comprehensive – Provides cover for your own vehicle against accidental damage, fire or theft, cover to a third party for unlimited injury, and third party property damage up to £20,000,000.
- Optional Breakdown cover available.

What usage type should I select for my van insurance?
When you take out van insurance with Acorn Insurance, you will need to choose one of the four usage types:
1. Social, Domestic and Pleasure (SDP)
Use only for personal, social, or leisure purposes. This does not include travelling to or from work.
2. Commuting
SDP use and travelling to and from one permanent place of work or business (your permanent workplace address).
3. Carriage of Own Goods
SDP + commuting and using your van for your own trade or business; for example, carrying your own tools, equipment, or goods.
4. Carriage of Goods for Hire and Reward (Courier)
SDP + commuting and using your van as a courier to deliver goods for Hire and Reward by prior appointment only.

What usage do I have and how can I change usage?
Your usage is shown on the Certificate of Motor Insurance and in your policy documents under ‘Limitations as to use’. You can also find this by logging in to the customer portal, where you can request to change the vehicle usage if you need to.
What is the difference between carriage of own goods and courier use?
Put simply:
- Carriage of own goods: Using your van for your trade or profession to carry your own equipment, materials, tools or products required for your work.
- Courier (hire and reward): Using your van to deliver goods or parcels belonging to others.
Why do I need courier-specific van insurance?
Standard insurance does not cover the delivery of goods for customers or companies. Van couriers must choose hire and reward insurance to get the correct cover.
Do I have breakdown cover on my van insurance policy?
To check if you have breakdown cover, please refer to the customer portal. Any optional products you selected will be listed on the policy details page.
Do I have driving other vehicles (DOV) cover on my policy?
Please note that you will not be covered for this if you have a standard van insurance policy arranged by Acorn Insurance.
DOV cover will be shown on the Certificate of Motor Insurance in your policy documents and in the endorsements section in the customer portal. If it is not listed, you do not have this cover. Please log in or check your documents before driving another vehicle.
Am I covered to drive my van in Europe?
Our van insurance policies provide the minimum legal cover in certain European countries for a limited number of days per year. Comprehensive cover abroad is not automatically provided. Please check your policy documents before you travel and contact us if you need extended or upgraded cover.
Can I use my car or taxi No Claims Discount (NCD) on a van policy?
Yes, you can transfer NCD from a private car or taxi policy to a van policy, providing all acceptance criteria is met. You will need to provide proof of your NCD from your previous insurer. Please check our specific rules during the quote process. Please be aware, once you have transferred taxi NCD to a van policy, it cannot be transferred back to taxi.
Where do I upload requested documents (e.g. No Claims Discount, licence, proof of address)?
You can upload any documents we have requested using this form.
How do I get proof of No Claims Discount (NCD) from you when I leave?
Once your policy has ended and any outstanding amounts are settled, we will automatically send your NCD by email within 72 hours of your policy cancelling or expiring. If you have not received it within this time, please request your NCD using this form.
How do I check how many years No Claims Discount (NCD) I have?
Policyholders accrue 1 year of NCD for each full policy year they are claim-free. This can be found on your NCD certificate, Statement of Fact or renewal invitation.
Where can I find my policy documents?
All your policy documents are available to view on the customer portal. They are also emailed to you when you first purchase your policy, and in your mid‑term adjustment pack whenever you make a change.
The documents include your Policy Schedule, Certificate of Insurance, Insurance Product Information Document, Policy Booklet and our Terms of Business. If you need us to resend any documents, please contact us using our webchat.
How do I change my Direct Debit details?
You can change your Direct Debit details by logging in to our customer portal. If you cannot see the option you need, you can also visit us on our webchat.
Can I change my payment date?
You can make changes to your finance agreement by logging in to the customer portal. If you cannot see the option you need, you can also visit us on our webchat.
How do I pay a missed payment?

I am struggling with payments – what support is available?

I am having trouble logging into the customer portal – how do I register or reset my password?
On the customer portal login page, use the “Create an Account” option if it is your first time using the portal, or “Forgot password” if you cannot remember your details. You will then need to follow the on‑screen steps. If you still cannot access your account, or you have recently changed your email address, please contact us on our webchat.
What happens when my policy is due for renewal?
A renewal invitation will be sent to you approximately a month before your policy is due to lapse. This will also be made available in our customer portal before your policy end date. Log in to the customer portal to review your renewal premium and check your cover.
If you wish to make any changes during your renewal period, which is the final 30 days of your policy duration, then please call our renewals team on 01704 339 327. Our opening hours are Monday to Saturday, 09:00 – 17:30.
Why have I been asked for extra documents?
Sometimes we need extra documents to verify the information on your policy and make sure everything is set up correctly. This is standard practice across insurers. We may ask for documents such as your driving licence, proof of No Claims Discount (NCD), proof of address or proof of vehicle ownership. Please upload any requested documents using our Upload Documents form.

Will I get a courtesy vehicle in the event of a claim?
You can check whether courtesy vehicle* cover is included or not by checking your policy documents here.
